We are generally seeking candidates for two types of positions:

Research Associate

You will be responsible for tracking software industry trends and supporting our Client Managers with market research on an as needed basis. You will also be responsible for tracking the careers of top software executives across North America, and approaching them on behalf of Sterling-Hoffman in order to initiate long term relationships. Finally, you will be responsible for logistical and administrative issues on all key search and capital sourcing projects. This includes coordinating interviews, preparing candidate evaluation summaries, conducting background checks, coordinating interviews, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Emotional Maturity / Self Awareness is critical to a long term career at our firm.
  2. 2+ years of experience in any of the following:
    1. Management Consulting
    2. High Tech M&A / Investment Banking (strongly prefer software or services group)
    3. Research or Analyst firm such as Gartner, Aberdeen, Forrester, etc.)
    4. 4+ years of experience within enterprise software industry: prefer backgrounds in sales, business development, product management, product marketing.
  3. University Degree is pure or applied sciences, mathematics, computer science is an asset. MBA is a nice to have, preferably from top 25 school with strong case study-style curriculum.
  4. Superior oral & written communication skills are absolutely mandatory.
  5. Strong work ethic is mandatory (willingness to work 60+ hours per week is necessary)


Senior Associate - Client Manager

You will be responsible for establishing and managing relationships with new clients (both venture capital firms and enterprise software companies). Your performance will be measured on two metrics: Client Satisfaction & Achievement of billing targets. At Sterling-Hoffman, all client-facing employees are required to be truly hands on in every project. You will be expected to interview every candidate submitted to your clients, participate in every conference call, and return client calls within 24 hours. If you are not seeking a hands-on executive search role and instead prefer to limit your participation to 'relationship building' via lunches or other social events, please do not apply to this position. Further, we require people that appreciate and value a small company atmosphere.

Preferred Qualifications:
  1. At least 7+ years in any of the following:
    1. Management Consulting (prefer tenure of assignment to high-tech accounts or projects involving enterprise software)
    2. Software M&A / Investment Banking
    3. Enterprise Software Sales / Business Development or Product Marketing
    4. High Tech Retained Executive Search or other relevant industry experience
  2. Domain Expertise with regards to executive or leadership psychology / organizational behaviour / human performance is a must have. (Candidate should demonstrate this via knowledge of major publications regarding this subject matter)
  3. Superb work ethic is mandatory.
  4. Public Speaking experience at industry conferences is an asset.
  5. Emotional Maturity is critical.
